Lucian Mandruta
journalist, blogger, media trainer, Romania
Born 1967, Bucharest, Romania, Lucian Mindruta is a journalist, blogger, media trainer and radio host. Current positions include writer for his blog, www.mindruta.ro and his very active social media page (www.facebook.com/lucian.mindruta) while also hosting a call-in daily radio show centred on current affairs. Mr. Mindruta began his professional path in 1992, at SOTI, an independent television station, continued with Tele7 and ProTV, mostly in anchoring and editing positions. He was editorial director for Ziarul Financiar (1999 - 2003) and wrote a weekly column for the cultural magazine “Dilema” for the most part of the 2000s. He anchored news for Antena1, worked as head of marketing for Mediafax Group and produced TV shows and formats for quite a few Romanian television stations. Now he is mostly a social media journalist (250k followers), even though his radio show on DigiFM also reaches hundreds of thousands every day. Lucian is a fan of free speech with a conscience. He thinks that media should facilitate the free flow of ideas in a society, while also being concerned with fact checking and the spread of fake news. He also believes that media should aim to create more cohesive societies, while also cultivate diversity of opinions and respect for each participant in the debate. He believes in citizen media - and he sees it as both competition and inspiration for veteran journalists like him. He’s also an avid road cyclist - clocking around 4k kilometres every year and organising long distance cycling events since 2007. Lucian is fluent in English, can do quite okay in French and his computer skills include video editing at a professional level. Other skills: sailing and flying small planes, even though in the last years he finds very little time for them. His political views are simple and plain: he likes capitalism and freedom, in all of their flavours. Still, he holds no formal political affiliation. He’s proud of two sons and a daughter, plus a quite early grand-daughter!
